Verbreitet hat sich die Fotografie während des späten 19. Jahrhunderts, in der Periode des Übergangs vom Konkurrenzkapitalismus zur finanziell und industriell konsolidierten monopolistischen Organisationsform des Kapitals, als sie im modernen Sinn reproduzierbar und zugänglich wurde.
